Birchbox

I have been really interested in trying out a Birchbox subscription. Birchbox is a monthly beauty subscription box for $10 a month. I finally broke down and subscribed after watching a TON of review videos, and video comparisons. You take a quiz that asks questions about you at the beginning so you can get products you will use and are for your hair, skin, and body preferences. I plan on giving my own reviews here on Sweet Southern Lady when my box's come in each month.

It'll be like receiving a present at my door every month. It's always different and you never know what you'll get!

I'll let y'all know more later on!

{Snow day}

Today everyone on the Outer Banks is seeing a rare sight. SNOW! I for one am very excited. I also know a dog who is loving it. Charlie is working and can't enjoy to snow as much as I can.

My nutty pooch loves to chew on sheds. We have a whole crab basket of them and she moseys on over to the basket and picks the one she wants for that day. It made for a pretty neat picture though.

The basket of sheds. All full of pine straw and snow. Such fun.

I was so excited to finally get a little snow on my Bean Boots!

My trusty Jeep has been sitting in the yard all day. Not moved an inch. She may help me to make some snow cream later on this afternoon.

I know I went a little over board on pictures but I don't get to see something so pretty very often.

Hope everyone is staying warm today!

Hunting season Recap

This hunting season wasn't much for me with moving, and many unplanned adventures. But I did get to go out a few times and soak in some salt air.

On some beautiful bluebird days. Not much of a hunting day but a perfect chance to spend with my Grandpork and Charlie who, might I add, is absolutely wonderful to my grandpa. I could never ask for a better man. Maggie also loves to be out and about when we come to our little slice of Cat Shoal.

And on some days which weren't so pretty. This day was super windy and the current was pulling the decoys around. We had to pick up and head home. The tide was up really high so I was sent to the blind because I would've gotten water in my waders and been a right chilly bird. Maggie didn't attend this trip.

Maggie wore my hat around like this because my Grandpork thought she was cold. When we got into the dock she still had it on and ran all around with people looking at her. I'm sure people thought we were nuts but I thought she was cute. She had her nose to the ground and looked like a little detective.

I love this picture. It took a little bribing with some cookies we brought with us. She is sporting her orange so she looks the part of her hunting dog role {she had also just gotten a new collar for Christmas and I didn't want to have it get messed up} . She just loves being out with us no matter where we take her.

Hunting selfies were a good way to waste time. It was another bluebird day, which in duck hunter lingo means all your gonna shoot would be bluebirds, which you don't want. Ducks like to fly in weather.

My little corner fully stocked.
My wallet: in case the man wants to check me.
Camelbak: I need to always have my water.
Cookies: Why not? cookies are always a good thing.
Gun: For obvious reasons.

I know I haven't been around for a good little while and I apologize.

See you soon.

Recent Health Kick

Good morning everyone! Recently I have been on a health kick. I bought a new water bottle in an attempt to drink more water.

I love the colors of it and it is so handy. I got it from TJMaxx and payed $10. Probably a lot for a water bottle. Maggie and I have started back walking together. She loves to get out and she doesn't get as hot since it's cooler weather. It's also fun to see all the Christmas decorations everyone has up instead of just walking by them all.

The leash shown is Lupine brand and has a lifetime warranty on it. Even if Maggie chewed it up all I would have to do is take it back to the vet's office and get a new one. They do all the hard work for me, like mailing it back in to the company. My shoes {you can barely see} are Nike Free's. Love them! They are the most comfortable tennis shoes I have ever owned. At $100 they are kinda pricey but totally worth every penny.

Maggie and I take selfies together first thing in the morning. She loves to cuddle with me, sometimes. Back to the Health kick, For Christmas this year I am asking for a FitBit Flex. A bracelet that tracks how many steps you walk, calories burned, tracks your sleep, silently wakes you with a vibrating alarm, I can set goals for myself and see my results right from my smart phone. I so hope I am fortunate to receive one as a gift! I hope ya'll are having a ton of fun getting ready for Christmas. Only 17 days left!

Have a wonderful rest of you Monday!

Thankful Tree

On Thanksgiving this year at Mine and Grandad's house we started a new tradition. We made a thankful tree. What's a thankful tree you ask? A tree with bare branches where each member of the family put a tag with something they are thankful for. After everyone has written what they are thankful for we had to pick a random tag off the tree, that wasn't ours, and guess which member of the family wrote it. It was so much fun to see what everyone was thankful for. Even the young children had a blast and realized how special it was.

This was such a fun and special activity, I hope we continue it every Thanksgiving to come!

Bust Busy Busy! {and cookies}

Well I had hoped on finishing out my thankful things but since it is already December I think i'm done. This thanksgiving was hectic to say the least.  we went to Charlie's grandparents and then to my grandparents then the next day all the way back home to Manteo to do some Christmas shopping and spend some quality time with my Granny. I'm so glad to have her. Sunday before church Caroline, my sister, and I made some wonderful sugar cookies. I fixed the dough and chilled it over night Saturday. I picked up some precious cookie cutters from a local kitchen supply store and we just had a blast.

We had the best time decorating the cute little cookies. We decorated with all the things we had at my Granny's house.Painting them with BBQ brushes and making polka dots with shrimp de-veiners. Don't worry they were clean.
Caroline wanted a monogrammed deer, which turned out very cute. She said hers didn't turn out good at all so I has to do it for her.
 Our preppy Christmas cookies (:
Hope everyone is enjoying the beginning of December as much as myself. I intend on showing you much more festive things going on in my life.

Happy Monday!

Hello everyone! I hope everyone is having a wonderful Monday so far. With the cooler weather I had been sleeping so good but last night it really warmed up and it is no fun sleeping in heat. Anyway enough with my rant. Let's catch up on the things I am thankful for.

20. I am thankful for Homecooking. My Mine is whipping up some delicious, completely from scratch banana pudding for my boyfriend, Charlie. Banana pudding is his favorite dessert. That night we had pig picking style BBQ, baked beans, salad, cottage fries, and yummy banana pudding. In the picture the ma-rang hadn't been baked yet.

21. I am thankful for good reading. I usually don't read books but I got a fabulous book from Barnes and Noble this weekend and I am so excited to start reading it. I have seen the movie and it is wonderful. I love to read magazines and such but usually don't have time to read books. This book I will have to make time for.

22. I am thankful for my many cups. This may seem like a funny thing to be thankful for but I love my tumblers and mugs. I love always having something different to drink out of and carry to school with me.

23. I am thankful for waders. My waders keep me warm and dry while hunting. I can wade out to get the ducks when they fall and not worry about getting wet. They are a very important thing to have when we go duck hunting.

24. I am thankful for being taught how to set the table. I was taught many different things growing up about how things should be done, many of them frivolous but I am so glad I know how to set a table. I consider this act a dying art, nobody cares anymore but I think a set table is so pretty and I hope others continue out this tradition as well.

I hope everyone has a wonderful rest of their monday!
